Troop 5813, based in Portland, Oregon, is a multi-age troop with scouts ranging from 6th grade to seniors in high school. Troop 5813 is based in downtown Portland, but draws scouts from all over the tri-county area.
Troop 5813 is a youth led BSA scout troop that began in 2021. We support and are a safe haven for LGBTQ+ youth. We explore and learn about the great outdoors. We believe in service to our communities and welcome youth interested in these same goals. We have an ambitious plan to go on at least one overnight, outdoor event every month. These monthly trips gives our scouts every opportunity to experience the gorgeous Pacific Northwest seasons (especially the rainy seasons) and to plan and lead one of our overnight trips. We do this for camaraderie and the fun of it!
All of our members are encouraged to obtain their merit badges and rise through the ranks. If any of our members are interested in becoming an Eagle Scout, we have an entire team of volunteers willing and ready to help with "the Road to Eagle." However, we know that rising through the ranks is not for everyone. That is ok, too. We do this to have fun and build a safe and open community.
Each summer we plan a two night, three day family rafting trip as well as a two night, three day troop backpacking trip. We try to keep room on these trips available for others interested in joining our troop and encourage everyone who share our goals, to join us.
